Better with Every Bite - Circo Circo! in Kent
As the the weather turns warm, I travel south for a business meeting and stop at Circo Circo! in Kent along the way. Nestled in a Fred Meyer shopping center, it actually took me a minute to locate the place, though I obviously found it eventually.
Good COVID safety measures observed, and I was seated more than an empty table’s length away from the nearest other guests — and I was presented with some very nice chips.
Two salsas, red and green. While the Red was fine, the Green was FANTASTIC! Go taste some. Seriously.
I moved on to order a standard chili relleno combo, one chili with rice and beans. First impressions were good, visually the colors are correct, though obviously a little more yellow cheese was involved than some other places (which is not a bad thing).
Food Arrives!
THE SIDES: Rice was very good, and not over seasoned. This is ideal for something that will accompany a milder flavored main like a chili relleno. Beans were ok. Beans were creamy — maybe too creamy? It may be an individual bean preference thing but I like a little more viscosity to my beans, but they were fine.
No tortillas? No problem! The lack of tortillas was compensated for by the basket of above average chips in front of me.
Presentation was good (and obviously I went to town on the green salsa by this point).
Cross section!
Cheese was an adequate amount! I was worried that it would be to much, but that ended up not being a problem.
SO HOW AS IT?
I’ll be honest, I didn’t love this one at first bite but it really grew on me. I was pretty underwhelmed with the slight “omlettey” flavor that I got when I started eating it, but either my palette adjusted or the flavor was just in the one section I had at first and I really enjoyed this meal. Chili flavor was pronounced and not obscured by an overabundance of cheese filling, though it could have been more pronounced. A great bonus was that the plate included a good amount of tasty oil from frying the coating. Liquid gold!
As I neared the last bite I was even wishing I had a second chili, making this a good standard chili relleno. So, as far as this chili relleno from Circo Circo! in Kent, I present it with:
THREE AND A HALF OUT OF FIVE CHILIS!!!
This may not be worth a separate trip down to Kent, BUT I’d definitely stop by if I was in the area of passing through.
